Leona Lewis’ Pad Becomes Melrose’s Place

Written by PETA | July 22, 2009

PETA Europe’s “Sexiest Vegetarian,” Leona Lewis, proved why she deserved her crown when she rescued a rabbit from a life on the streets—a life that was bound to end on someone’s dinner plate.

Leona Lewis

While out and about in L.A. this week, Leona noticed a homeless man with a tethered rabbit. When she asked the man what his plans for the rabbit were, he admitted that he might eat the bunny. Um … come again?! As a vegetarian and a diehard animal defender, Leona struck a deal with the man: She gave him $100 to buy proper food, and he gave up the rabbit.

Now, Melrose (the rabbit was named after the street he was found on) is living it up in the “Bleeding Love” superstar’s posh L.A. pad. Jealous much?

A friend of Ms. Lewis said, “She didn’t think life on a lead was any way for a rabbit to live—then when he said he was going to eat it she knew she had to save it.” Swoon. If only all celebrities had that kind of “Spirit.”

Leona is amazing. She was offered a million pounds to switch on the lights at Harrods the biggest store in London. But she turned it down because it stills sells fur and refuses to stop. Even though hundreds of protests take place each year outside the store they still refuse. How pants!!!

  • jess says:

Well sam doll leona did the man a huge favor. 100$ can supply more food than a rabbit can. If you don’t agree with animals rights then why are you on this site?

  • Kurt K says:

Rev. Good points. You are probably right but the man may have just been down on his luck. BTW my name is Kurt not Kirk.

  • Rev. Meg Schramm says:

First of all Kirk I am a female. Second I live among people like this. They buy booze and drugs not food. When asked why they will look you in the eye and tell you that while they can always find food they cannot find what they really want which is booze and drugs the two sources of their problem. No Kirk I do not think he deserves credit until he does something to help himself. I do not know where this took place but if it is Los Angeles there are free centers all over the place that will help him if he truly wants it. Personally I think Leona was lucky she did not end up like the little Burk girl did. He could have thought that if she had 100.00 for a rabbit she had acess to a lot more and he could have done what he needed to do to get it.

Please keep speaking out for animals Leona your an inspiration and people will listen to you. Im so glad to hear your against fur and animal cruelty altogether. You have restored a little faith in the human race again for me. THANK YOU FOR STANDING UP FOR ANIMALS! The world needs more Leonas.

  • Rex's Mom says:

Leona Lewis was discovered by Simon Cowell another champion for animals!

  • Sam Doll says:

…It’s just a rabbit. What do you want the man to do go hungry? I’d eat anything if I had no money for anything else. Better a rabbit dies than a human.

  • Kurt K says:

“I am willing to bet the homeless guy took that $100.00 straight to a liquer store or a drug dealer.” Rev. Meg Schramm Leona Lewis may be compassionate howvever you sir are not. I guess you claim to be a reverend and you claim to follow Jesus so how can you mock a homeless man in such a manner? The man gave up the rabbit for $100.00. That can buy much more food than one rabbit can provide. He did a “good” thing according to PETA as did Leona yet you still mock him. I think this man deserves a little credit don’t you think?

  • Gina says:

  • Carla* says:

I heard she turned down a 2 million dollar offer from an exclusive London store to open its summer sale cause they sold fur. Priceless!!

  • Linda A levy says:

Leona Lewis you r a grrrreat compassionate human being with a wonderful voice you give many people joy all over the world vegetarian too!!! Love Ya!!!

  • erica says:

    Leona is a absoulute angel!!what a sweetheart

  • NT says:

What an a that guy was. Being homeless does not mean you have to be heartless. I once met a homeless man in London who used his only jacket as a bed for his dog and refused to live in a government run building because they did not allow pets. Needless to say I gave him any cash I had on me to buy some dinner for him and the dog.

  • Rev. Meg Schramm says:

I am willing to bet the homeless guy took that $100.00 straight to a liquer store or a drug dealer. I think the rabbit got the best part of this deal.
