ILVTOFU License Plate Rejected–Again

Written by PETA | August 20, 2009

Last week, vegetarian Carmen Cusack walked into the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles looking to change her license plate to read “ILVTOFU.”

Dreaming of kung pao tofu, barbecue tofu sandwiches, and tofu tacos, Carmen was ready to educate everyone she shares the road with about the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

Well, it seems that the guys over at the DMV had a rather naughty interpretation of Carmen’s message (“I-LV-TO-F-U”).

Florida is the second state this year to reject an “ILVTOFU” license plate. Instead of risking rejection here in Virginia, we’ve taken a different tack.

If we can get 350 people to prepay just $10 for one of these stylish new “vegetarian” license plates, they’ll be put into circulation in April of 2011!

If you live in Virginia, what are you waiting for? Let others know about how much you love tofu by sending your application to the Virginia DMV today.

i dont protest when you show support for being vegetarians as in the virgina plate. but let me ask this im a hunter born and rasied. now if michigan passed a hunting plate would you cause arguement about that? and what would your reason be? because im not allowed to express my way of life? im only asking you this because of a debate with a lady who claimed to be peta i had last week which the other person coun not give me a reasonable answer.

Nice plate design! I just emailed the New York State DMV to consider a similar design. I urge all fellow New Yorkers to ask them as well.

  • David says:

Nice idea PETA though I just got a license plate to promote dolphin conservation after seeing “The Cove” .

  • Curtis says:

In California you can have a heart shape! It could be I3TOFU

  • Kateline says:

This is a great idea! I dont live in Virginia but I hope you can get to 350. Its a wonderful way to get the message out there!

  • Karen says:

Virginia seems to be the haven for themed license plates. Much more difficult to get ‘em in MD… but this Baltimore Veggie would get a Vegetarian plate if they were available.

  • Michael says:

Hey Tom no DMV in the country will take the TOFUISGR8 because you are limited to the ammount of characters that can fit on the plate. Not to long ago I read that a Nevada man had plates issued and then they tried to revoke them. The man drove a Chevy Tahoe and Tahoe was taken so he asked for HOE. A few yuears ago here in Maryland I saw and SUV with a vanity plate that said “MILF” lol Florida is also on of a few states that offer a “Pro Life” plate but refuse to allow a “Pro Choice” plate. Sanjaro Virginia has some cool specialty plates. One of them is a Parrot Head plate for Jimmy Buffet fans

  • Jackie says:

The vegetarian license plate would look much better than a plain license plate that says ILVTOFU. If people could get their heads off of what’s in their pants things like this wouldn’t happen. Also when I read the DMV’s interpretation of the plate I couldn’t stop reading it as that interpretation. It’s like when I found out the secret behind Britney Spears song If You Seek Amy lol.

I am a native of Tidewater. If I still lived in Virginia you can bet I’d be adding my $10. Great idea best of luck!

  • Gina says:

Vegetarian sounds good but vegan sounds BEST! Also love that license plate. How about VGGIELVR etc? There are plenty of ideas out there.

  • sanjuro says:

she could have gone for ILUVSOYA too

  • sanjuro says:

Ok that was funny. D I don’t have a car but those vegetarians plate are very nice I think they’d make nice decorations too.

  • Lacey says:

What about in Texas? I know a friend of mine who would be interested.

  • Tom says:

    instead of “ILVTOFU” try TOFUISGR8″

  • Edward says:

It doesn’t have to be ILVTOFU you know. It could something like TOFULVR or something similar. People can get very creative.
