Duggars and Dogs: PETA Weighs In

Written by PETA | January 27, 2010

The reproduction debate’s heating up as TLC prepares to air the fourth season of its Duggar Family hit, 19 Kids and Counting. This season, the Duggars have upped their clan-size from 18 to 19, and it has some arguing yay or nay about the “Duggar-style” approach to reproduction. We say, as long as Jim Bob and Michelle are able to keep a roof over their family’s head and modern-modest clothes on their backs, there’s a far more important reproductive issue at hand. So, we’re offering to run this billboard in the Duggar’s hometown of Tontitown, Arkansas, as well as in nearby Springdale and Fayetteville:

Duggars Billboard

Talk about mind-blowing: One unspayed female cat and her offspring can create a whopping 420,000 cats in just seven years, and one unneutered male dog can father nearly limitless litters. Roughly half of the estimated 6 to 8 million cats and dogs who enter U.S. animal shelters every year are euthanized because there aren’t enough good homes for them. Many more are abandoned on the street, left to fend for themselves, and many are subjected to acts of cruelty, starvation, disease, or injuries.

The solution is simple: Spay and neuter companion animals.

Get over it, it’s their lifestyle, they obviously love their kid and treat them well, and 19 more people isn’t going to over populate the earth.

  • Michaela says:

Its disgusting that we actually allow a tv show to be broadcast that encourages having this many kids and over-breeding. This planet is overpopulated enough. We can BARELY sustain the current population as it is, and it will only get worse. Over-population is destroying and stripping our natural resources. Not to mention the millions of starving and homeless children that need to be adopted, its SELFISH to keep popping out kids just because you want “one of your own”. If your rich and can afford to take care of multiple kids fine, go adopt 4-5 of them. Don;t put pressure on your children to get knocked up for the sake of your TV show.

Interesting how one of the commercials during the Duggers show talked about “hoarding”.

I’m a stone cold liberal and an animal lover. However you’ve really crossed the line here. Trying to take out a billboard making pointed fun of a family in their hometown is beyond low. Do I believe you have a right to free speech? Yes you have a right to make fools of yourselves. Your cause however deserves far far better. I have nothing but contempt for whoever cooked up this idiotic idea. You should seriously consider a regime of drug testing amongst your employees.

I would rather see one family that loves all 19 of their children than a family that has 1 or 2 and abuses them in some instances even kill them. I say leave the Duggers alone and be the best parents you can be.

I can not believe some of the comments about the Duggars. People have a choice to have as many kids they want. PETA and people need to educate themselves on their believes instead of leaving nasty comments. We all have different opinions about the Duggars but that doesn’t make us right. Have you ever thought that we might be WRONG? That’s why people need to educate themselves about their believes and stop judging them. It’s really none of our business of how many kids they have. They take care of them and its not hurting us. As far as the children helping out I think its great that they have some responsibilities. They grow up to be better people.

Ms. Solte. I think you are being plain stupid. The Duggars are a good christian family. They take very good care of their children They provide very well for them. And if they decide to have more kids it is their business. AS far as someone comparing them to Octomom There is no comparison. That woman can’t care for her kids She runs a website to beg for money she cannot provide for them. She is living on welfare and donations. There is
