Covance Pays for an Anti-Covance Billboard

Written by PETA | November 9, 2007

Here’s a taste of what PETA UK’s been doing with the money they received from Covance Inc. following the dismissal of Covance’s lawsuit against them. Karma’s a bitch, sometimes.

Good work on PETA. I cannot express how much hatred i have for any human who use primates for experiments. As the chinese would say: their conscience were already eaten by dogs. Much support from Malaysia.

  • Wanda says:

Why do animals or humans have to suffer? Is animal testing so addictive that other alternatives won’t even be considered? Tunnel vision will destroy us.

  • Alterman says:

as much as i value the life of an animal it seems somewhat nonsensical to expect modern medicine to take care of you but only expect testing to be done on humans. i almost get the impression that you’d rather humans suffer…

  • Shrek says:

If there is anyone that was not sickened by the PETA videos taken at Covance in Virginia they must work for Covance. While research is important cruelty and an indifference to any animal is beyond comprehension.

    Mike what about the 49?

  • Vegoconics says:

I want to know what kind of people work for a company like this…here’s a scenario in someone’s life working for Covance Honey how was your day at work? Oh nothing special I put some electrodes in a primate’s brain and watched it suffer. I would like to meet people like this and have a face to face!

  • Mike Quinoa says:

Mars The bottom line is Covance were the ones who initiated the lawsuit against PETA UK and Covance ended up getting spanked. And it cost them a few quid in the process.

  • carolyn says:

AWESOME WORK. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT OF THE SEVERE TORTURE BUSINESS AND SEND A MESSAGE TO ALL OTHER TORTURE COMPANIES TO WATCH OUT!! !!!!

  • Caboose (Combine Slayer) says:

Janice You forget. The REAL terrorists are the U.S Govt of today.

  • janice says:

Given that the US now consider environmentalists and animal rights people “domestic terrorists” and a bigger threat than jihadists and Right wing nut jobs like Tim McVeigh it’s no wonder Covence won their suit here. BUT Victory for PETA Europe Covance Drops Lawsuit Video of Appalling Abuse of Monkeys to Be Shown Worldwide Company’s False Assurance of Good Welfare Practices Exposed For 11 months an investigator from PETA US worked as a technician inside the Vienna Virginia Covance laboratory where she documented workers who were striking choking taunting and deliberately tormenting terrified monkeys. Covance sought an injunction and was able to get a court order temporarily preventing PETA Europe from showing the undercover footage from inside the Covance animaltesting facility in the United States. On 16 June His Honour Judge Langan handed down judgement in the case for injunctive relief brought by Covance Laboratories against PETA Europe Ltd dismissing the case and calling the arguments against granting an interim injunction “cumulative and in my judgment overwhelming”. Furthermore PETA Europe was awarded 145000 in court costs. Covance Laboratories considered appealing this decision but PETA Europe’s case was so strong that the company withdrew its appeal request and dropped the entire lawsuit before it was brought in front of the Appeal Court judges. Covance will now be responsible for paying PETA Europe’s additional legal costs.

JWK Your post is very interesting. I “think” I can understand what you are referring to in general without knowing the exact details. And if my understanding is correct then stay strong and keep up the good fight! You are not alone.

  • Mars says:

In case you didn’t catch it Covance didn’t pay PETA a dime.Covance paid the $80000. Court Fees and each side paid their own attornies feesect..Only PETA would claim making money when they lost money. The settlement papers can be viewed through a link at the Covance website.

  • Ariel says:

Instead of gullible MARS comforting itself by swallowing a pack of lies about animaltesting that are spewed out by those who are obsessed with nothing more than greed and therefore offers baseless “facts” IT should go to this topic’s link “dismissal” and read “Alternatives testing without torture.” There’s nothing like having some REAL education that offers REAL FACTS. On the other hand it would be consistent with someone who is unconscienable not to care and not have respect for ALL life animal and human animal to want to know or admit to the TRUTH about animaltesting.

  • Mike Quinoa says:

To counter Mars’ copyandpaste from the Covance website “Covance was fined by the USDA in 2006 for Animal Welfare Act violations at five Covance facilities in Berkeley Calif. Denver Pa. and three unidentified sites. An outbreak of TB in five monkeys occurred here Madison WI in June 2006 even though the monkeys had been quarantined upon arrival into the U.S.” Covance Propaganda “”The research we perform is essential to ensuring that these medicines are safe and effective before they are made available to patients.” The Truth The GAO Government Accountability Office reports that 51 of new drugs have serious undetected adverse effects at the time of approval. HMOs health maintenance organizations spend more treating ADRs adverse drug reactions than on drugs.

I assume that you are now going out of business? No available staff on weekends?. I will pay for the most prominate sign that you can display in South Carolina within reason of course. You could never imagine the incessent hell that I am still ungergoing from the Hollywild Demonstrations in Spartanburg S.C. false charges false prosecutation and so on with which they have yet to break me even with the best attorney money can buy here. So I have less to lose and more to give yes I can be a pain in the Butt but I have less to lose and I continue to beat them at their own game in other trumpedup attempts to undermine and vilify me. My continuing thanks for your ongoing efforts and success. JWK

Princeton New Jersey October 17 2005 Covance today achieved a successful settlement to its lawsuit against PETA in which PETA agreed to a ban on conducting any infiltration of Covance for five years. In addition PETA’s operative Lisa Leitten accepted a threeyear ban on infiltrating any commercial animal research facility worldwide. PETA and Leitten must also provide all video footage and written notes taken from Covance. The settlement was confirmed by the Circuit Court of Fairfax County which entered an order requiring PETA and Leitten to comply with these requirements. “This resolution achieves our key goals of the lawsuit to obtain a ban on infiltration and to demonstrate that Covance will not tolerate such unlawful acts by those who seek to block important biomedical research” said James Lovett Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Covance. “The strength of our case enabled us to achieve these goals quickly via this settlement.” “Our business is devoted to helping develop new medicines for diseases such as breast cancer diabetes leukemia Alzheimer’s heart disease and HIVAIDS” said Lovett. “The research we perform is essential to ensuring that these medicines are safe and effective before they are made available to patients.”

  • Russell says:

fuck covance…i wish they would have made one of those huge lottery checks representing the settlement and in the memo line written “for anticovance billboard” …fuckers…
