3 Lives for $2.99

Written by PETA | August 8, 2008

KFC is known to work with suppliers that breed and drug chickens to grow so large that they can’t even walk, cut off baby birds’ sensitive beaks without any painkillers, and drop birds into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. KFC accepts these cruel practices because they help fill the chain’s buckets of chicken at a cheap price.

To highlight the twisted practices of a company that focuses on its wallets while ignoring animal welfare, we’ve created a series of provocative billboards. “Another Life, Another Dollar,” “3 Lives for $2.99,” and “Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price” are just a few of the taglines. Hey, we never said subtlety was our forte.

  • Maureen says:

Another life another dollar is short and to the point.

  • dsfk says:

I like the third one best.

  • Patricia Panitz says:

KFC knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. But they are all good.

  • Rock says:

Hey guys I went vegetarian because I couldn’t stand the thought of animals being killed but animals are still being killed. Whats wrong with that logic?

  • Rory says:

Numba 3 is da best. GO PETA

  • Ana says:

24 and 5 in my opinion are the best. I sincerely hope people get the message and it changes minds and hearts and compassion rules the day. How sad for the lovely chickens. Last weekend I spent 3 days are Farm Sanctuary now that is how animals ought to live!!!

  • Natalie says:

OOh these are all pretty good but I like “3 lives for $2.99″ and the 64 cent one.

  • Saucy says:

In my opinion the ad that is the most crushingly honest is 4. It exposes the hypocrisy and indifference of greed. They the penny pinchers engineers measure every cost every minute every detail every day. Everything but themselves. They fail to take any account of the treacherous existence of the birds in their keep. Their dominion is domonic. The fear and misery of living breathing seeing hearing feeling nesting natural instinctual creatures doesn’t register in their minds or their cold hearts. I think this ad will appeal to the more educated consumer and also the Christian community. People do know that what they are eating is a dead bird and the cost is what brings ‘em in not what is going to take them out. But value now that is a strong word and it has meaning beyond a price tag. I think this ad will hit a home run with all but the lowest common denominator of KFC consumers. It strikes a curiousity factor.

  • Leslie RD says:

3 Lives for $2.99 is my vote. Go PETA! Go vegan!

Another life another $1 is the best but they r all great

  • megnus says:

“I like Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price” They are food people. What other purpose does a chicken have? They aren’t companion or work animals no other purpose just a good meal . Save Broccoli….Eat more Chicken!

  • Eilidh says:

I like the KFC knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing

  • LS says:

How Can I get one as a bumper sticker?

  • Gina says:

I like 1 and 2. People don’t like the word cheap I think that one word might do wonders in keeping customers away from KF Cruelty.

  • amy says:

i love them all they are soo true

  • larry says:

All are good. Just make sure they ALL have kentuckyfriedcruelty.com on there…only one of them has it…and seeing a billboard with that web address on it is what changed my life completely!!

  • Leslie Martinez says:

First one is best! in my opinion

  • Lana says:

I like the 3 lives for 2.99 one! Great job Peta!

  • lynda downie says:

  • NT says:

    3 lives for $2.99

  • brandie says:

I love it when I am right. When ya’ll posted a blog about the new kfc fake chicken sandwhich it sounded as if peta was patching things up with their long time rival. And I said I would just sit her and wait for yet another hate blog about kfc and I was right. I highly doubt kfc will change their ways so please don’t hold your breath. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Btw I like 35. They are all good.

  • Craig says:

I think that 3 lives for $2.99 is the best one because I believe it will make the most people think.

  • Julia says:

I like Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price.

  • vegan4animals says:

I love the “3 lives for 2.99″ one. Keep up the good work. It is so easy to keep dead animals out of our diets by eating vegan. It’s insane that such cruelty is happening to animals because a bunch of dumbos can’t think for themselves. Hey make that a Tshirt I’d wear it.

  • Pamela L. says:

THey are all right to the point and so true. THe one that stuck out to me was that KFC knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

  • Siobhan M. says:

I like the “64 cents” welfare one. I also really like the “3 lives for 2.99″ but I feel like it won’t make people stop and think as much. People who eat meat want to eat as much of it as they can for as cheap as possible. When seeing the “3 lives” ad they’ll just mutter the typical “Yup and they’re delicious.” I think telling people that KFC works hard to fight against humane practice is a better route to go.

  • Canaduck says:

Great job PETA. These ads are awesome!!! I like “3 lives for 2.99″ best and “1 life for 1 dollar”. All the others are actually pretty goodthough I’m not so fond of the “cheap chicken means animals pay a high price” one because that will encourage all the yokels who think that paying more for “humane” meat means that there isn’t any suffering involved.

  • Katie says:

3 lives for 2.99 most deffinetly ! its gets right to the point i think

  • Leigh Anne Schmidt says:

I like the 3 lives for 2.99. I would think you’d want the simplest ad possible. We don’t want anybody to have to think now do we?

  • Melissa N says:

    3 for 2.99 for sure!

  • Maureen says:

I think the first one hits the hardest!

  • Michele says:

The 1st one is the best but they are all very good!

  • Hannah says:

I like both the “Three Lives” one and the “64 cents” one.

  • Maggie says:

I like the “Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price” and the “3 Lives for $2.99″

  • ghazal says:

im going for 3 lives for $2.99 but I also like the .64 question. Peta.. we love you guys in florida!!

  • Stephanie says:

I think the 1st the 3rd and the 4th ones are the most powerful.

  • ian says:

3 lives for $2.99 is my favorite. I think people will make the connection better with this one. I know I would feel like a sh!t if I just bought a chicken to eat from KFC and saw this ad. Then again I don’t eat chickens so maybe that’s why I would feel like a sh!t.

  • Ally says:

    another life another dollar

  • Kat says:

I think the 3rd and 4th are the best I like them all though.

  • Judith FFFA says:

I like the first and third. Another great idea PETA! Go Vegan! Peace for all animals! Most of my heroes wear masks!

  • Matt says:

I think the 1st 3rd and 5th ones do the best job of illustrating the point

  • Hann says:

The first one is awesome. Thanks Peta. XVX for life R.A.S.H. ’til death.

  • Holly says:

I like the second and the third one. Keep up the Good work PETA! Go Vegan…

  • Holly says:

The U.S. leads the world in poultry production with a yearly production of 18.2 mmt ready to cook equivalents Anon 2006. We can eat harm free diets of fruit vegetables grains and live healthy guilt free lives. We dont live in the dark ages any longer and dont have to kill to eat.
