In an apparent effort to recoup profits lost as a result of the dwindling demand for seal products, Canada will begin selling seal meat to China. Why China? Well, the sealing industry can't seem to find anybody else to buy the stuff.
Amid an international public outcry against the seal slaughter—in which baby seals are hooked in the eye or cheek, bludgeoned, drowned, and sometimes skinned alive—the European Union recently banned the import of all seal products from Canada, and the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling for an end to the massacre (sales of seal products are already banned in the U.S.). As a result, the price of a seal pelt has dropped from $100 just a few years ago to only $15 last year.
You can help keep the pressure on by e-mailing Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and telling him to stop the seal slaughter immediately. You can also post a pro-seal message on Facebook or Twitter.

I fail to see how harvesting seals is any different than the cruel treatment we put all animals through in out slaughter houses. In some cases we use the entire animal in other cases we take only parts of the animal. I believe that if we are going to slaughter and animal, let's insure that it is done in a respectable manner and that we use as much of the harvest as possible. I don't use seal product but I do consume fish, cow, pig, chicken etc.
I have no words I can express for the monstrous move this is on Canada's part. They must have devils in their government. Who could make decision like this.
It further proves that money is put above life!!!!
As an extremely proud Canadian, I was absolutely heartbroken when I read about this in the newspaper. People need to realize that this is only a small group of people doing this. Most people such as myself are against it, many don't even know about it, which is why i have been collecting signatures from people who are against the seal hunt to give to Mr. Harper. Please don't judge us all as horrible human beings, because we're not.
We do not live in the ice age, nor in times where human beings had to kill other animals no matter how to profit from meat and survive. It's a shame and irony to call some western cultures as civil and forward, when they gain profit this way.
Canada needs to wake up!
More pressure is needed on the Canadian Gov to stop this senseless slaughter once & for all.As Deborah commented b4,China doesn't give a damn about the rights of animals. As long as there is trade. It'll probably be passed off as something else in tin cans & sold to the rest of the world, not knowing what they're eating.Canada has sunk THAT low & the Government should hang their head in shame.
China is a country that skins animals alive daily to sell the fur. Unfortunately, they will have no moral problem buying seal meat from Canada, and Canada will be able to sell as much as they can slaughter. This is very heartbreaking to say the least.
