If you had the same reaction that I did (i.e., violent retching) when you heard about KFC's hideously unhealthy Double Down (you know, the sandwich that replaced bread with fried chicken and forced you to think about all those globules of deadly gunk gumming up people's blood vessels), get this: A single egg yolk contains vastly more cholesterol than an entire Double Down. As Dave Barry says, I am not making this up.
With heart disease being the number one killer of Americans, the cholesterol-bomb egg industry has resorted to ever-more-desperate "move along, nothing to see here" tactics to try to pass the blame, but a new report in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology calls them out on their bull … uh, chicken poop. The take-away? Eating just one whole egg per day can double your risk of coronary disease.

I think this post is a >little< one sided.
Eggs might not be the healthiest food, but it's certainly not the reason for health problems.
If you eat only one egg each day, proper exercising will still keep you healthy. Now, THATS a fact no scientist has to confirm.
@ " eggs are chicken periods - who'd want to eat them anyway?"
Seriously? "Eggs are chickens"?
That's the same thing as saying Sperm are babies. stupid.
I'm not trying to support the egg industry, more like the opposite.
I only buy eggs from a neighbor who has a small farm here in Norway. Her animals are pretty much wild running, and the farmer treats her animals really good.
I just can't see what's wrong with eating those kinds of eggs.
Eggs = DEAD!! :D
I've seen nothing written about LDL versus HDL cholesterol. The cholesterol in eggs is HDL, which doesn't raise a persons cholesterol very much. The idea that eggs raise cholesterol is outdated. The difference between LDL and HDL is LDL has a lot of saturated fat. HDL doesn't.
That picture makes be chuckle. That has to be the grossest picture of an egg frying (and what is that above it -- a frying foreskin or something? LOL) I love eggs but that makes me never want to see another one! Oh, and btw, I don't eat them any longer since I had a double bypass last year!
free range eggs are better for you and the birds. hey dont beg to be free because they have the necassary freedom that they would would even recognize. they arent cooped up and abused. i do no agree wiht the mass killing of animals for food. but if we just one day let all the cows, pigs, a chickens go they owuldnt know wut to do its sad yes but that would just be like exterminating them. they no longer have the ability to "fend for themselves" as they have been domesticated for thousands of years. same goes for domestic cats and dogs. do all you vegans and vegi's have pets? besides these animals are not n the endangered species list. lians and tigers and rhinos are. there are a couple thousand of them each and millions adn billions of chickens cows and pigs. not including the non free ranges ones. eating these animals are keeping them from going extinct. interesitng thought eh.
but i digress. i am a vegi but not a vegan but if I dont eat these animals it is not going to keep them from dying. and IF by some miracle all of humanity stopped eating animals of all kinds. they would die. so ya kinda a screwed up situation us humans have gotten ourselves into. and its not just going to stop over night. i love animals hence why i dont eat them but wut have realized is that nothing is black and white. NOTHING!
I can understand PETA not wanting us too eat eggs because chickens are not treated very well, thats true. However saying eggs are not healthy is just wrong. The double down however very unhealthy and comparing an egg to that is just plain ridiculous.
I am a vegetarian and a strong supporter of PETA, but I'd be interested to know what PETA has to say about eggs from free-range roaming chickens farms. This is just out of curiosity - does PETA support this humane egg industry or does PETA strongly disapprove of it? Thanks :) I'm also interested in what other people have to say :)
The egg argument is a misnomer - it's what PART of the egg you eat.
Yes, eggs are high in cholesterol, which is why they say you should only have three a week if you're healthy. Doctors DO NOT RECOMMEND eating them if you have high cholesterol. (Of course, this will not stop those who have a gluttony for higher fat foods, but that's their choice.)
Egg WHITES have no cholesterol - why? - it's in the yolk so the embryos can have food while they're developing into chicks. (Source: Science 101 in elementary school).
Fact of the matter is, we have cholesterol in our bodies anyway - we produce it in our livers. (Source: Health in elementary school). And some people have higher amounts naturally - hence why the higher risk if you eat too much from food.
It's too much that causes the problem, and why moderation in any diet is important.
Choosing not to eat them is a moral choice, some cases dietary. I personally eat them in moderation, and go for farm fresh ones if I can because then I don't get poisoned from chemicals. (This means, I eat them very rarely).
My husband bought a dozen eggs on Sunday. It's Thursday, and the entire dozen is still in the fridge. I know because I just checked. The way eggs are eaten in this house we will have 8 eggs left by the time they reach expiration. I think he wants to see how long it takes them to go bad....
