… are also keeping a Big Brother–esque eye on the annual massacre's critics.
We know that countless Canadians care about animals. And it seems that many are concerned about Canada's economy. So it's safe to guess that many of our northern neighbors will be fuming when they learn that the Canadian government spent C$75,000 in taxpayer money to hire a company to monitor animal protection groups' chat rooms, Twitter messages, and blogs. After the company spent time monitoring these groups' messages, government employees would add pro-slaughter assurances that Canada's "harvest" (i.e., head-bashing) is only carried out on animals who are "healthy and abundant." No surprise that they steered clear of the "heated and unreceptive" discussions about the common practice of live skinning.
So what do you think of this government's online antics and its decision to monitor animal defenders and rah-rah the seal slaughter—all with the taxpayers' C$75,000?
Won't you tell them, please?

This is ridiculous... I am Canadian and I am proud of it... However, I'm not proud of the government's response to the needless seal slaughter... it's barbaric and heart wrenching... and now this? Why is it so necessary to protect the Seal Slaughterers? Let them fight their own battles with people online and with their own consciences... This saddens me. A big F U to the Harper government.... I can't wait for federal elections…. I cross my fingers for a vegetarian or vegan representative…. Or someone with half a heart even.
As a canadian I think it's an absolute farce. Whether it's taxpayer's money or not, it's a waste of time and an underhanded way of trying to gain support for a cruel, dispicable needless hunt with less and less value-despite their bullshit protests that someone somewhere is benefitting from and using it as a means to support their families. With each passing year I am becoming more ashamed to be canadian.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says Canada is 'on track' to return to surpluses in the 2015-16 fiscal year. (CBC)Canada's federal deficit for the 2009-10 fiscal year is a record $55.6 billion,
What a waste of our tax payers’ money to monitor "seal chatter" As an active PETA supporter against the Seal Hunt in Prince Edward Island, Canada this may explain some odd responses I get from pro seal supporters. It’s some civil servant getting paid to respond.
Can't believe how stupid our Government is. Russia backed out in a graceful way indicating it is the will of the people to end the Seal Hunt. Gail Shea belief is well its what our fishing community does..club, hook and drag seals across the ice to be often skinned alive. After all this is a rural community and animal welfare is always off the table.
My fire is fueled for the next protest. Hope my "chatter" is always being recorded. The government has done an excellent job in Atlantic Canada scaring people that PETA is a threat to their livelihood. A threat! The only threat to them and every Canadian is a bloated deficit of $55.6 billion. Canadians know what’s coming…increased taxes, increased UI payments, and increased GST. Then Atlantic Canada you better start losing sleep over your jobs !
Keep up the fight PETA ! Victory will come.
