Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried green split peas, rinsed

  • 8 cups water

  • 3 Tbsp. or 3 cubes faux chicken or vegetable bouillon

  • 2 medium potatoes, diced into large pieces

  • 2 large carrots, coarsely chopped

  • 3 stalks of celery, coarsely chopped

  • 1 large onion, coarsely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tsp. dry mustard

  • 1/8 tsp. allspice

  • 1 tsp. cumin

  • 1 tsp. sage

  • 1 tsp. thyme

  • 2 bay leaves

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  • In a large pot, bring the peas and water to a boil.
  • Lower the heat, add the remaining ingredients, and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the peas are very soft.
  • Remove the bay leaves and serve.
