PETA Asks Obama to Cancel Annual Turkey ‘Pardon’

With buzz this week that every single turkey “pardoned” by President Barack Obama is dead, PETA sent a letter to the president asking him to cancel this year’s National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation, the annual event at which he “pardons” two turkeys. His participation in the ceremony suggests that he supports an industry that slaughters more than 45 million turkeys every Thanksgiving, contributes to climate change and other environmental problems, and endangers public health.
Turkeys can’t depend on just the first family to spare their lives—they need all American families to celebrate a turkey-free Thanksgiving. Have a happy and humane Thanksgiving!
