Meryl Streep’s Character Has a New Demand in PETA’s ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Theater Spot

The devil is back with a new deal. Gird your loins, because fashion’s most feared fictional editor has a message that can’t be ignored. Take a look:

In PETA’s spoof of the 2006 film’s iconic scene, chaos erupts at a glossy high-fashion magazine as employees frantically hide wool sweaters, tear leather swatches off mood boards, and shed their snakeskin shoes after a terse memo arrives. Then we see the directive from a steely editor channeling Meryl Streep’s legendary character: no more fashion made from animal skins. That’s all.

The video ends with a simple message: “A change of heart could change everything.”

The Fall of Fur Was Just the Beginning

PETA’s playful but pointed ad mirrors the fashion industry’s real‑world reckoning with fur. Top designers, including Prada, banned fur years ago. To earn Miranda’s signature two-nod approval, Prada must now ban leather, wool, and wildlife skins.

Multiple PETA entity undercover investigations have exposed how workers in the fashion industry burn, electroshock, beat, and slaughter cows to turn their skin into leather; hit, kick, and mutilate gentle sheep to steal their wool; hack at crocodiles’ necks and shove metal rods down their spines for “exotic” skin accessories; and slit ostriches’ throats, rip out their feathers, and tear off their skin.

Vegan’s in Vogue

Cows develop friendships and mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other; sheep grow depressed if isolated from their flock; and ostriches are devoted parents, with fathers taking an active role in caring for and defending their chicks.

Our fellow animals’ skin, feathers, and hair belong to them. Before you buy that cerulean sweater or thigh-high boots, check the label to make they’re made with compassionate vegan materials like soft organic cotton or vegan leather made from plants.

PETA’s ad, created in collaboration with creative director Chris Carl, will run before screenings of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at theaters across the country starting opening day, including in New York City, where the film is set.
