Ajinomoto Can’t Seem to Steer Clear of Cruel Animal Tests

It’s apparently not enough for Ajinomoto Co. Inc. to torment thousands of dogs, fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice, pigs, rabbits, and rats in horrific and deadly experiments—because the world’s largest producer of monosodium glutamate (MSG) has also funded cruel tests on cows.

Bankrolled by Ajinomoto, experimenters at the University of Illinois conducted a recently published study that starved cows in order to induce nutrient deficiency, forced dietary supplements through a stomach tube, took their blood, and sliced up their livers.

Ajinomoto also provided one of its products for use in this experiment, which apparently aimed to determine ways to boost milk production, not for the baby cows who need it but rather for humans, who don’t.

The university laboratory that conducted the tests specializes in warehousing calves in cramped, solitary outdoor confinement. So it’s perhaps no surprise that it collaborated with Ajinomoto in these cruel experiments.

Ajinomoto is no stranger to animal abuse. The company—which owns frozen-food brands Tai Pei, Ling Ling, and José Olé—has conducted and/or funded experiments that cut open dogs, starved them, and injected them with drugs; killed and dissected rabbits; and electroshocked, force-fed, and injected toxic cancer drugs into mice and rats.

What You Can Do

This senseless cruelty must end. Following talks with PETA, dozens of other food and beverage companies throughout the world have stopped contributing to wasteful animal tests that aren’t even required by law nor relevant to human health.

Please urge Ajinomoto to ban all animal testing immediately:
