After Cecil’s Death, PETA Protesters Demand Protection for Lions

Cecil—and countless other lions like him—should never have been shot with arrows or gunned down just to become a “trophy” for a wealthy egomaniac.

Today, PETA protesters gathered outside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service headquarters in Washington, D.C., to demand that the U.S. protect lions like Cecil by listing them as a threatened species and banning the importation of their heads, tails, and skins.

Trophy hunters will continue to satisfy their bloodlust, unconcerned about devastating lion prides and disrupting the natural balance of their ecosystems unless federal authorities take action. The worldwide outrage that erupted after Cecil was tortured and killed shows that the majority of people are ready for trophy hunting to be the next thing shot down.
