No vegan options? Mamma Mia! After confirming that New Haven’s upcoming attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party won’t feature any vegan slices, PETA sent a letter today to the event’s official pie purveyor, Big Green Pizza Truck, pointing out that having delicious dairy-free options on deck would help ensure that everyone can get in on the action. And to help with the effort, PETA is offering to provide all the tasty, ooey-gooey vegan cheese they’d need, free of charge.

In the letter, PETA notes that the addition would make the event more enticing for the millions of people who don’t consume dairy out of concern for the animals, the planet, or their own health—or because they’re among the 70% of the human population who are lactose intolerant.

“No matter how you slice it, adding a mouthwatering vegan option to New Haven’s ‘za extravaganza would be a winning move for animals and attendees,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is encouraging Big Green Pizza Truck to cater to all by offering piping hot pies covered with melty vegan cheese.”

PETA notes that cows make friends and mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other, yet in the dairy industry, female cows are forcibly impregnated and have their beloved calves stolen from them so the milk meant to nourish their babies can be sold to humans. Newborn males are routinely slaughtered for veal, while female calves endure the same fate as their mothers until their bodies wear out and they’re sent to slaughter.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.

Dear Ms. Varipapa Page:

I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)— PETA entities have more than 10.4 million members and supporters worldwide, including many in Connecticut—with a request to make the Guinness World Records Attempt for Largest Pizza Party animal-friendly by including delicious vegan cheese pizza. PETA would be happy to provide Big Green Truck Pizza vegan cheese free of charge.

Many compassionate folks are ditching dairy because, to make dairy-based cheese, workers forcibly manually impregnate mother cows again and again, so they’ll constantly produce milk. Then, workers take their babies away within hours of birth so humans can steal the milk—causing distress to mother and infant. This cycle of pain and loss continues until the mothers’ bodies are worn down and they’re slaughtered.

This move to add vegan cheese would make the event more enticing for those who don’t consume dairy for medical reasons. About 70% of the human population is lactose intolerant. Everyone can enjoy delicious vegan cheeses without the cruelty, cholesterol, or upset stomachs that cow’s milk causes.

Will Big Green Truck Pizza let kindness be the topping that sets this world record apart? We’d be happy to meet with you to discuss logistics and provide the delicious vegan cheese.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Danielle Katz
