Naperville, Ill. – According to the organizer of today’s trunk-or-treat event, Oscar Mayer has canceled the Wienermobile’s scheduled appearance because of PETA’s planned protest in behalf of pigs abused on factory farms, in transit, and at slaughter. Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman:

Hot dogs are, among other fleshy bits, blended-up pigs’ lips, snouts, and anuses—they are straight out of a horror movie and belong nowhere near a family-friendly Halloween celebration. PETA is relishing the Wienermobile’s cancellation and urging kind people to opt for delicious veggie dogs that mean only the Wienermobile’s tires will squeal.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on TwitterFacebook, or Instagram.
