Return of Dogs to Puppy-Beating Suspect Prompts PETA Rally

Following reports that a man—whom a concerned neighbor allegedly caught on video stabbing a screaming pit bull puppy with a rod or a stick—was able to retrieve his two dogs, and possibly obtain a third, only days after officials had confiscated the animals, PETA supporters will protest on Tuesday outside State Attorney Monique H. Worrell’s office, urging her to act without delay to ensure that officials recover the animals. PETA points to the danger these dogs face while in the hands of a man who has reportedly been seen kicking and whipping the puppy and carrying him by the neck in a chokehold.

“Every moment these dogs spend with their suspected abuser, they’re at risk of cruelty and injury,” says PETA Vice President Martin Mersereau. “PETA is calling on State Attorney Worrell to treat this situation as if it’s life-or-death, because it may be, and get these dogs to safety.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
