The taste of victory! PETA has just named its Most Vegan-Friendly Cities in the U.S., and Philadelphia has crushed the competition, nabbing a spot on the list with its plethora of plant-powered options.
Once ranked as one of the unhealthiest cities in America, Philly is now filled with vegan-friendly and all-vegan restaurants, including Monster Vegan, whose menu includes a delectable Cheese Plate featuring three vegan cheeses paired with red grapes, apples, fig jam, kalamata olives, candied pecans, whole grain mustard, and a baguette. The eatery also offers dairy-free fried mac and cheese balls and an animal-friendly cheesesteak with house-made cheese whiz.
Philadelphia’s ever-expanding vegan dining scene also includes craveable plant-powered pies from 20th Street Pizza and hearty vegan sandwiches from Batter and Crumbs and LUHV Vegan Deli, including a homemade seitan corned beef sandwich grilled with melted vegan American cheese, topped with coleslaw and served on a ciabatta roll. Other vibrant vegan food options that earned Philly a top spot include creamy dairy-free ice creams from Crust Vegan Bakery, “cheezy” fries from Vegan-ish, and melty cheesesteaks from HipCityVeg and The Tasty.
“From indulgent dairy-free ice creams to mouthwatering vegan cheesesteaks, Philadelphia is a paradise for vegan eating with an abundance of animal-friendly restaurants,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “All the cities on PETA’s list have cemented their status as vegan dining destinations, proving that delicious cruelty-free cuisine is available from coast to coast.”
Other vegan-friendly cities recognized by PETA include Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Chicago; Detroit; Los Angeles; New Orleans; New York City; Denver; and Washington.
Every person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals each year from daily suffering and a terrifying death, and reduces their own risk of developing heart disease and cancer. PETA offers vegan starter kits to help everyone opt for animal-friendly foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—because when it comes to saving animals, every meal counts.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
