This winter, PETA has selected the Top 10 Vegan Ramen Bowls from restaurants in North America—and Ramen Danbo is on the list for its Negi-goma Atsuage Ramen. The award-winning dish comes with thick-fried tofu, plus white sesame oil, specialty-roasted sesame seeds, and fresh scallions.

“Ramen Danbo’s Negi-goma Atsuage Ramen is a perfect cold-weather comfort food that gives animals a little comfort, too, because it’s 100% vegan,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “All the nourishing noodles on PETA’s list celebrate compassion by the bowlful, because each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year.”

PETA applauds vegan dining selections because its undercover investigations have shown that animals raised for food are beaten; mutilated; kept in filthy, crowded conditions; denied everything that’s natural and important to them; and violently killed. In the egg industry, investigators have found that hens are forced to produce as many as 300 eggs per year—far more than the 15 per year that their ancestors used to lay in nature. They often suffer from osteoporosis, cysts, infections, and reproductive tumors—and eggs can even become lodged inside them. Once their bodies wear out and they’re no longer considered useful for egg production, they’re pulled from their cages by their wings and sent to be slaughtered.

Other winners include the Veggie Miso Ramen from Daruma Ramen in Austin, Texas; the Yasai Ramen from Gorō Ramen in Oklahoma City; and the Tomato-Curry Ramen from Hatoba in Washington, D.C. Each eatery will receive a framed certificate.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
