With Mother’s Day around the corner, PETA sent a letter today to Jennifer Garner—whose own mom, Patricia, is a beloved fixture on the actor’s Pretend Cooking Show—encouraging her to celebrate mothers of all kinds by whipping up a dairy- and egg-free episode. And to help get her cooking, PETA has offered to provide all the ingredients needed, including an array of plant milks, gourmet vegan cheeses, and hen-friendly JUST Egg.
In the letter, PETA points out that with just a few simple swaps, everything from omelets to apple pies can be made vegan—and that an animal-friendly episode of Pretend Cooking Show would be momumental tribute to mother cows, whose beloved calves are taken away from them on dairy farms, and hens, who are confined in filthy, crowded sheds and exploited as egg-producing machines until their exhausted bodies give out.

“Cows and hens are doting mothers who develop deep bonds with their babies, but these bonds are cruelly broken in the dairy and egg industries,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is encouraging Jennifer Garner to celebrate Mother’s Day by dishing up delicious animal-free fare that keeps all moms in mind.”
Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year, dramatically shrinks their food-related carbon footprint, and slashes their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is filled with tips to help anyone looking to make the switch.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
