Ahead of Super Bowl LX, PETA has drafted its picks for the game day hotspots serving up the nation’s best vegan wings—and Omaha’s own Fifth House is a winner. The fully vegan restaurant’s Sichuan Hot Honee Wings are made with a choice of herb-crusted seitan or crispy cauliflower, topped with black sesame seeds, and served with carrots and celery, field greens, and a side of vegan curry mayo.

“Fifth House is dishing up game-changing gameday nosh with its delicious Sichuan Hot Honee Wings, which are as finger-licking good as they are kind to chickens,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “Every winner on PETA’s list shows that doing right by animals and your arteries ain’t no thing but a vegan wing.”

Chickens form complex social structures, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do. Yet every year, hundreds of millions of chickens are killed for Super Bowl Sunday alone. At slaughterhouses, mechanized blades slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious—and many are scalded to death in de-feathering tanks. PETA’s free vegan starter kit—and guide to the best heat-and-eat vegan wings available at grocery stores—can help anyone thinking of making the switch.

Fifth House will receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights. Other winners on PETA’s list include Triangle Tavern in Philadelphia; Life on Mars in Seattle; Piper Down Pub in Salt Lake City; and Radical Rabbit in Nashville.

Fifth House is located at 3901 Farnam St., Suite B, Omaha, and is open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner on Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kitsfor people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
