What’s more American in 2026 than vegan apple pie? In time for Independence Day, PETA is unveiling a new interactive map to help treat lovers across the U.S. find delicious vegan apple desserts that are as tasty as they are kind to animals. From apple pies to crumbles, chai-spiced creations to apple-stuffed cinnamon rolls, PETA’s egg- and dairy-free picks are the perfect way to celebrate freedom for all.

In Washington—the top apple-producing state in the U.S.—Nuflours Bakery is dishing up an animal-free old-fashioned apple pie made with fresh, organic, local apples, and across the country in the Big Apple, New Yorkers can order their pie with a crumble topping or classic lattice crust at Bare Naked Bakery. For a twist on tradition, Ohio’s Mezzo restaurant offers a vegan Apple Pie Cake made with warm spiced almond cake, topped with apple pie filling and served with a scoop of vanilla coconut almond gelato. And in Maine, sweet seekers will fall in love with Lovebirds’ Apple Fritter, made with brioche dough, apple chunks, cinnamon, and vanilla glaze.
“The Founding Fathers would flip over these delectable apple sweets that tempt the taste buds and treat animals with kindness,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA’s interactive map makes it as easy as pie to find delicious apple desserts in every state that let chickens and cows live in peace.”
Chickens enjoy taking dust baths and roosting in trees, and cows develop meaningful friendships over time. Yet in the egg industry, hens are crammed into wire cages or packed into filthy sheds where they can’t even spread their wings, and in the dairy industry, mother cows are forcibly impregnated, and their beloved calves are torn away from them shortly after birth so that humans can take their milk. Just like the animals who are violently killed for meat, hens’ and mother cows’ lives end at the slaughterhouse.
Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year, dramatically shrinks their food-related carbon footprint, and slashes their risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
