Norfolk, Va. – Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to the tests of Daiya’s Cream Cheeze Style Spread that Einstein Bros. Bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels, and Noah’s New York Bagels began at more than 700 locations:

Dairy-free spreads are a delicious option for anyone who is lactose intolerant, has allergies, or simply wants to practice kindness to mother cows and their calves. Following three years of pressure, a personal plea from actor Lisa Edelstein, and a petition with more than 45,000 signatures, PETA is thrilled that Einstein Bros. Bagels, Bruegger’s Bagels, and Noah’s New York Bagels have stepped up to meet consumer demand for healthy, humane vegan options. The delicious schmear will surely become a permanent addition to their menus.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat.” For more information, please visit PETA.org.
