INTERMIX Bans Fur, Making Gap Inc. Completely Fur-Free
It’s hard to believe that the fur from coyotes, rabbits, foxes, minks, and raccoons is used to adorn a pair of gloves. But not for long. A recent decision by INTERMIX to end sales of animal fur has made it possible to declare that the world’s top three largest clothing retailers—Gap Inc., Inditex, and H&M—are now completely fur-free.
INTERMIX, owned by Gap Inc., is known for carrying a wide variety of on-trend, exclusive designer products at more than 40 locations across the United States and Canada and online.
More than half the fur in the U.S. comes from China, where millions of animals, including dogs and cats, are killed for their fur. Chinese fur is often deliberately mislabeled, so if you wear any fur, there’s no way of knowing for sure whose skin you’re in. After PETA met with INTERMIX and Gap Inc. to explain the cruelty inherent in all fur production, the company agreed to stop purchasing products with fur.
