Sec. 4-9. – Animal adoption.

(a) The city’s main concerns with respect to adoption of an animal from the animal control facility are:

(1) That the animal be in good health, be registered, be sterilized and not be vicious by nature; and

(b) The person adopting an animal from the animal control facility will be required to pay an amount to be determined by the mayor and council for the costs of feeding and housing the animal in the shelter plus a fee equal to the cost of the registration certificate and tag, the cost of inoculating the animal and the cost for sterilizing the animal. These fees shall be paid prior to the animal being removed from the facility. A schedule of fees shall be kept on file in the public works department.

(c) The person adopting the animal will take the animal to one of the participating veterinarians within the city within fourteen (14) days for the registration certificate and tag, the inoculation of the animal and the sterilization of the animal.
