6.04.010– Definitions.
The words hereinafter defined shall have the meanings herein indicated for the purposes of this chapter as follows:

“Kennel” means any establishment wherein or whereon the business of boarding or selling dogs or breeding dogs for sale is carried on, except a pet shop.
6.04.020– License required.
No person shall keep or harbor or suffer the keeping or harboring within his or her household of any dog within the township without first obtaining a license therefor, to be issued by the township clerk of the township upon application by the owner or harborer thereof and payment of the prescribed fee, and no person shall keep or harbor any dog in the township except in compliance with the provisions of this chapter.
6.04.040– License and registration fees—Expiration date; exception.
A. The person applying for the license and registration tag shall pay a township fee of thirteen dollars and eighty cents ($13.80) and one dollar ($1.00), state registration fee, plus a pilot clinic fee of twenty cents ($0.20) for each dog. For the annual renewal, the fees for the license and registration tag shall be the same as for the original license and registration tags and renewal thereof shall expire on the last day of January each year.
B. In addition to the above, owners issued licenses for nonspayed or nonneutered dogs of reproductive age shall be assessed a fee of three dollars ($3.00). A dog of licensing age is considered to be of reproductive age. Owners presenting a statement signed by a veterinarian or a notarized statement signed personally certifying that their dog has been sterilized are exempt from this three dollar ($3.00) fee.
6.04.090– License for kennel, pet shop, shelter, pound.
A. Any person who keeps or operates or proposes to establish a kennel, a pet shop, a shelter or a pound shall apply to the township clerk for a license entitling him or her to keep or operate such establishment.
B. The application shall describe the premises where the establishment is located or is proposed to be located, the purpose or purposes for which it is to be maintained and shall be accompanied by the written approval of the health officer of the township and the township building inspector, showing compliance with the local and state rules and regulations governing location of and sanitation at such establishments.
C. All licenses issued for a kennel, pet shop, shelter or pound shall state the purpose for which the establishment is maintained, and all such licenses shall expire on the last day of January of each year.
D. Licenses shall be subject to revocation or suspension by the council on recommendation of the police chief or acting police chief that the establishment is a public or private nuisance or on recommendation of the State Health Department or township health officer that the establishment fails to comply with rules and regulations governing such establishments, after the owner has been afforded a hearing, either by the State Department or the board of health of the township or the police chief or acting police chief.
E. Any person holding such license shall not be required to secure individual licenses for dogs owned by such licensee and kept at such establishments. Such licenses shall not be transferable to another owner or different premises.
6.04.100– Fees for kennel and pet shop.
The annual license fee for a kennel providing accommodations for ten (10) or less dogs shall be ten dollars ($10.00) and for more than ten (10) dogs, twenty-five dollars ($25.00). The annual license fee for a pet shop shall be ten dollars ($10.00). No fee shall be charged for a shelter or pound.
