Sec. 7-9-180. – Disposition of impounded animals.

(c) After the required time period, in lieu of having an animal destroyed, the County Animal Services Department may release an animal which is not diseased to a bona fide humane society or to a person having no previous interest in the animal. Upon release of the animal, the recipient shall pay a fee as established by the County, including but not limited to fees for adoption, rabies inoculations, dog license and sterilization costs.

(d) All animals adopted from the County Animal Shelter are required to be sterilized at the time of adoption unless such surgery would be dangerous to the animal due to its age or physical condition, as determined by the selected veterinarian of record. Transfer of ownership shall not occur until sterilization has been performed, although possession may be given to the adopting person upon his or her promise to have the sterilization performed by a specified date.
