Sec. 14-31. – Definitions
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this Chapter shall have the following meanings ascribed to them, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Hobby breeder shall mean any person, business, organization, or corporation that is registered with the county animal control division and is in good standing, that meets the Michigan Department of Rural and Agricultural Development (“MDARD”) requirements for the large-scale breeder and has less than 15 intact animals over the age of four months, that breeds animals for sale, trade or giving away and whose primary source of income is not derived from the breeding and/or sale of animals.
Sec. 14-96. – Hobby breeders must obtain a permit from MDARD and be registered with county animal control.
A hobby breeder may not sell, trade, exchange or otherwise place any animal without being in possession of a valid license from MDARD and a valid, current permit from county animal control.
