6-1.01 – Adoption of County Animal Control Ordinance.
For the purpose of prescribing regulations governing animal control and licensing, impounding, and regulating the keeping, sale, and exhibition of animals, Title 10 of the Los Angeles County Code relating to the care and control of animals and providing for animal related services, as amended through Ordinance No. 2006-0029 of the County of Los Angeles, adopted on May 2, 2006, three (3) copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk for public inspection, is adopted by reference and made a part of this chapter as though set forth in full in this chapter. Whenever in said title and its amending ordinances, reference is made to the County of Los Angeles, such area shall be deemed to include in its true geographical location, the entire City of Maywood. Whenever any names or terms are used in said Title 10, each such name or term shall be deemed and construed to have the meaning ascribed to it; provided, however, “County of Los Angeles” shall mean the City of Maywood, except in such instances where the County of Los Angeles is a correct notation due to circumstances.
6-1.04 – Violation—Penalty.
(c) The penalties for violations of Part 4 of Chapter 10.20 of the Los Angeles County Code, entitled Mandatory Spay and Neutering Program for Dogs, are as follows:
(1) First violation. A first violation shall be an infraction punishable by a fine not to exceed Two Hundred Fifty and No/100ths ($250.00) Dollars. If the owner or custodian fails to correct the underlying cause of the violation within thirty (30) days after being notified of the violation, it shall be deemed a second violation.
(2) Second violation. A violation within a year of a first violation shall be deemed a second violation. A second violation is a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed six (6) months or by a fine not to exceed One Thousand and No/100ths ($1,000.00) Dollars, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each subsequent violation within one (1) year shall be considered an additional misdemeanor.
