Sec. 5-31. – Sterilization required.
All animals sold and or adopted from the Alexandria Animal Shelter shall be sterilized by a Louisiana licensed veterinarian except as otherwise provided by this article. Procedure shall consist of written agreement as provided in La. R.S. 3:2472, 1990.
Confirmation of sterilization of released, sold or adopted animals shall be made to the Alexandria Animal Shelter within the prescribed time or the animal may be seized from the owner at no cost to the city.
Sec. 5-32. – Fees.
(a) Adoption fees for animals to be sterilized are set as follows:
Sterilization Fee:
Male cat …..50.00
Female cat …..55.00
Male dog …..65.00
Female dog …..75.00
All fees shall be paid the animal shelter prior to release of any animal.
(b) Waiver of sterilization fee. The sterilization requirements may be waived by an adopter who executes a written agreement obligating the adopter to care for the adopted animal and all of its offspring. The waiver fee shall be set at one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) and paid to the shelter prior to release of the animal.
Sec. 5-33. – Dog-breeding yards prohibited.
It shall be unlawful to house more than five (5) dogs or any number for sale as determined by animal control in the yard of a residential area of the City of Alexandria for the purpose of breeding said dogs for resale unless licensed to do so pursuant to section 10-20 of this Code.
Any persons and/or firms found in violation of the provisions of this Code shall for each violation be fined no less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), or be imprisoned for not more than sixty (60) days or both. Each separate day on which any violation of the provisions of this Code is shown to have continued to exist shall constitute a separate offense.
