Sec. 4-24. – Redeeming of impounded animals.

(b) Failure of owner to redeem. If an animal is not redeemed by the owner within five (5) days after impoundment, the animal may be disposed of in one of the following ways, but no other ways: (1) release for adoption by a new approved applicant who shows evidence of ability and intention to provide the animal with an appropriate home and humane care and further agrees to have said animal sterilized; (2) release to city approved rescue organization, provided the organization agrees to have the animal sterilized and indemnify and hold harmless the city from any and all liabilities that might arise from such transaction; (3) euthanasia, using a method approved by the Humane Society of the United States.
