16.08.010 Dogs Generally
A. Definitions: The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
KENNEL: Any establishment, existing either indoors or outdoors, wherein dogs or cats not belonging to the property owner are maintained for boarding, breeding, training, or other similar purposes, for a fee or compensation. The term “kennel” shall also be defined as any establishment which sells, exchanges or offers for adoption, with or without charge, dogs or cats which have been produced and raised on the premises, or which have been accepted for such purpose.

K. Kennels:
1. No person shall maintain a kennel within the corporate limits of the city, unless said kennel is located on no less than five acres of land, and said kennel is located at least 2,500 feet from the nearest residential or business building. This paragraph shall not apply to an animal pound maintained by a political subdivision or a licensed veterinarian. This paragraph shall not apply to any kennel existing on February 12, 2012.
2. Failure to perform any act required, or the performance of any act prohibited by this paragraph, shall be designated a city ordinance violation. Any person found to have committed the violation shall be assessed a monetary penalty of not less than $25.00.
