Sec. 18-53. – Adoption of unredeemed animals.

The animal control officer or such other person as may from time to time be designated shall cause to have posted or published, the day or days when unredeemed animals shall be offered to the public for inspection and adoption. The animal control officer, in conjunction with the Animal Welfare Board shall develop reasonable standards deemed necessary for the care of adoptive animals, including, but not limited to, the proper licensing, inoculation and the proper spaying or neutering for all dogs and cats adopted. No licensed animal shall be adopted until after the registered owner is given the opportunity to claim their animal; and fails to do so within the time period set forth in section 18-45.
