55.13 AT LARGE: IMPOUNDMENT.

B.   Disposition of Unlicensed Dogs or Cats. Impounded unlicensed dogs or cats may be recovered by the owner, upon proper identification, by payment of the impounding fee of $25.00 and boarding, food and care costs, and the purchase of a license, when applicable. If such dogs or cats are not claimed within seven days after impoundment, they shall be disposed of in a humane manner as directed by the Council. Any person willing to give a home to and to care for the dog or cat may take an unclaimed dog or cat by paying the impounding fee of $25.00, the fee for spaying if it is a female or the fee for neutering if it is a male and the fee for rabies vaccination. No unclaimed dog or cat may be released to a new owner until such fees are paid.
