Go Vegan to Save the Seas

Fish are a vastly diverse array of species, each made up of countless individuals with distinct personalities, intelligence, and sensitivity. Some fish species sing or create artworks to impress potential partners. Some use tools to access food or communicate. Fish, crustaceans, and all sea life feel pain.

The fishing industry kills hundreds of billions of animals worldwide every year—far more than any other industry. Commercial fishing nets drag sensitive, feeling fish from their aquatic homes, crushing them with overwhelming pressure, or causing them to slowly suffocate (often for up to 10 minutes). In addition to “target” fish, many millions of other animals are caught and killed in fishing nets as “bycatch” each year, including 50 million or more sharks and rays, 300,000 whales and dolphins, and 250,000 turtles.

On top of the suffering, commercial fishing causes widespread destruction to ocean ecosystems, damaging habitats like coral reefs and sea floors. If humans don’t take action against the cruel, environmentally devastating fishing industry, there won’t be an ocean left to save.
