Black cats are in store for some good luck this Halloween. PETA’s mobile veterinary clinics are offering a free spay-and-neuter special in their honor on October 31 (although companion cats of other colors won’t be turned away).

When:    Thursday, October 31

Where:    PETA’s Sam Simon Center, 501 Front St., Norfolk

Appointments are required (and limited!) and can be made by calling PETA at 757-622-PETA (7382), extension 3, or reserving a spot online at PETA.org/SpayNeuter.

“The ghastly homeless-animal overpopulation crisis is scarier than any Halloween horror story,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “For every black cat who gets fixed for free by PETA this Halloween, countless kittens won’t be born into a world already bursting at the seams with homeless cats.”

Every year, more than 6 million dogs and cats end up in animal shelters across the U.S., and half of them must be euthanized, many simply because there aren’t enough good homes for them. The solution is simple: spaying and neutering, a service that PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—provides for free and at low cost in southeastern Virginia.
