Pig to Plead With Parishioners on Easter Sunday
PETA Mobile Billboard Will Appeal to St. Patrick’s Cathedral Churchgoers to Honor All God’s Creatures by Going Vegan

On Easter Sunday, worshippers arriving for services at St. Patrick’s Cathedral will be greeted by a PETA mobile billboard showing a pig peering through the window of a slaughterhouse transport truck and the words “Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? For Christ’s Sake, Go Vegan.”

“Easter is a perfect time to honor the Christian call to compassion by sparing the lives of animals who otherwise would be slaughtered,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien, a devout Roman Catholic. “PETA’s billboard will give churchgoers food for thought about showing Christ’s unlimited mercy to all living, feeling beings.”
In today’s filthy, violent pork industry, mother pigs are squeezed into narrow metal stalls barely larger than their bodies and kept almost constantly pregnant or nursing. Pigs’ tails are chopped off, their teeth are cut with pliers, and males are castrated—all without any pain relief. At the slaughterhouse, they’re hung upside down and bled to death, often while still conscious. Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year.
PETA supporters will also pass out copies of the group’s free vegan starter kits, which are packed with recipes, tips on dining out, and more, as well as its Christian pro-vegan brochure to attendees of the 10:15 a.m. Mass.
