As winter weather continues to grip the state, native New Yorker Dean Winters stars in a tongue-in-cheek disaster-preparedness public service announcement (PSA) for PETA that urges everyone to be ready for blizzards, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes and never to leave animals behind during evacuations.

Inspired by Winters’ role as “Mayhem” in Allstate Insurance commercials, the PSA shows the 30 Rock and Sex and the City actor being blasted with wind, pelted with snow, and doused with water as he urges viewers to protect all their family members the next time a natural disaster strikes. “[N]ever, ever, ever leave your animals behind,” he says. “Don’t let ’em down.”

PETA’s rescue team has helped hundreds of animals in the aftermaths of hurricanes and other natural disasters. PETA urges everyone to determine evacuation destinations in advance, place animals in secure carriers and make sure that they’re wearing ID tags, and take along enough food and water to last a few days.

Winters joins a long list of celebrities—including Krysten Ritter, Liev Schreiber, Kimiko Glenn, John Stamos, George Lopez, Tom Hardy, and many more—who’ve teamed up with PETA or its affiliates to promote kindness to animals.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a supremacist view of the world. For more information about including animals in emergency preparations, please visit PETA.org.
