PETA Statement: Giraffe’s Move Reveals Park’s Heartlessness

Below, please find a statement from PETA Foundation Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet in response to reports that New York’s Animal Adventure Park is moving Tajiri, the giraffe whose birth was live-streamed last year, to a facility in North Carolina:

It’s heartless of this roadside zoo to breed a giraffe, live-stream her pregnancy for publicity, use her baby to attract visitors, and then ship off her beloved son in a risky transport scheme once he’s no longer considered useful to the enterprise. This facility may understand how to grab attention on the internet, but it doesn’t seem to understand the basics of maternal love, and PETA urges everyone to register disgust regarding its next live-stream stunt.

PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment.” More information about the premature deaths of giraffes in captivity is available here.
