No Texas A&M Event Is Off-Limits, PETA Activists Crash Graduation Ceremony

PETA supporters just created a moment for the dogs imprisoned inside laboratories at Texas A&M University (TAMU) who never get to walk. And graduates and their families will likely remember it forever.

Activists disrupted a TAMU commencement ceremony to protest the university’s cruel muscular dystrophy (MD) laboratory, in which dogs are bred to have this disease so that they can be experimented on.

An activist—shouting, “Shut the dog lab down now!”—ran down the aisle between the graduates and approached the stage as a university administrator was speaking. At the same time, two other protesters unfurled a huge banner, which read, “TAMU: Stop Cruel Dog Tests.”

This is the latest action to protest more than three decades of breeding and torturing sick dogs.

Joe Kornegay has been experimenting on dogs he’s deliberately bred to develop a canine form of this painful and crippling disease. After 35 years, there is no treatment that reverses symptoms—let alone a cure—for MD in humans.

From football games to board meetings to fancy dinners, PETA supporters have kept the pressure on TAMU to shut down its cruel and senseless experiments on dogs. Until the university commits to using only modern, animal-free research methods that will actually help people, it can expect activists to show up at any given time.
