‘Injustice Anywhere Is a Threat to Justice Everywhere’

After we learned that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, had been attacked last week, PETA staffers passed the hat around the office. Now, a donation of more than $700 is on its way to the president of the Colorado Springs branch of the NAACP, and PETA President Ingrid Newkirk also sent this note expressing PETA’s support:

I’m writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and our more than 3 million members and supporters, including thousands across Colorado, to express our disgust at the recent attack on your office as well as our sympathy for you all. We have always agreed with Dr. King that “[i]njustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” and we stand in solidarity with you, your staff and volunteers, and the NAACP. To show our support, we took up a collection. PETA staff members raised more than $700, which we will be sending in the mail.

We wish you all the best in your continuing efforts to make our society a fair and just one for all.

Very truly yours,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President, PETA

In the wake of this attack, let’s strengthen our commitment to opposing injustice and violence in all its forms—as Coretta Scott King did and Dexter Scott King still does—and to never being silent in the face of abuse and exploitation.
