George Brett Hits a Grand Slam for Dogs

When baseball Hall of Famer George Brett isn’t hanging out with his dog, Charlie, or engaging in America’s favorite pastime, he’s speaking up for dogs! Summer is here, and families are out having fun, but George (and Charlie!) want to remind all of us to leave our furry friends at home if we plan to go somewhere that they can’t go also. On a 78-degree day, the temperature inside a shaded car is 90 degrees, and the inside of a car parked in the sun can reach 160 degrees in minutes, even with a window cracked. If it’s too hot for us to be in a car, then it’s definitely too hot for our dogs.

When left in hot cars, animals can sustain brain damage or die from heatstroke in just 15 minutes or less. Our furry friends can only cool themselves by panting and by sweating through their paw pads.
