Dog Whipped in Dorchester County, SC
PETA has received reports that a dog on Bay Eddy Court in Summerville, SC, is routinely whipped and is frequently tethered outside without food, water, shade, or shelter. Allegedly, the owner admitted to using the whip to “correct” the dog for barking and digging. A video reportedly taken at the property shows a dog tethered in direct sunlight, without access to shade, panting heavily. The dog does not appear to be barking, digging, or performing any other perceived “transgression,” yet a man opens a door and whips the dog with what appears to be a bullwhip, and the dog yelps in pain.

We promptly reported the video to law enforcement, urging them to file charges and take custody of the dog. They confirmed they received the complaint, but declined to provide updates, telling us we could file a records request if we wanted additional information. When we received the records, they lacked details, but seemed to indicate that no action was taken regarding the dog being whipped. When we asked for clarification on why substantial information appeared missing, we were told by the Deputy County Attorney that he would look into it. Weeks have passed, we still haven’t received the records, and to our knowledge, this dog remains in danger.
We need your voice! Please politely contact the following Dorchester County officials and urge them to intervene on behalf of this dog. Remember to remain polite and professional, as rude correspondence can hinder our efforts!
