Urge the USDA to Release Horses to Sanctuary—and WSU to Close Cruel Goat/Sheep Lab

After much campaigning from PETA supporters and other animal rights organizations, Washington State University has announced the cancellation of its planned horse-killing laboratory in the veterinary curriculum, sparing eight healthy and adoptable horses from certain death! But the fate of the horses is still in limbo with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

We must now urge the USDA, which has custody of the horses, to immediately release the horses to a sanctuary, instead of potentially sending them to another laboratory for experimentation and death.

Additionally, Washington State University continues to allow deadly terminal surgeries on goats and/or sheep in its veterinary curriculum, even though many veterinary schools successfully train students through humane clinical programs and state-of-the-art simulation methods rather than killing healthy animals.

Please help these animals now by taking the actions below:

1. Directly email decision-makers at the USDA, which reportedly has custody of the horses! Urge it to immediately release the animals to a reputable sanctuary where they can live out their lives in peace. Use our USDA talking points below for inspiration.
USDA Talking Points
  • Please facilitate the release of eight horses recently saved from certain death at Washington State University to reputable sanctuaries that are ready to accept them.
  • Thousands of people, including Washington State University students and alumni, the veterinary group Our Honor, and over 36,000 PETA supporters, support the decision to retire these healthy animals to a sanctuary where they can live in peace.
  • There is no cost to the government to do the right thing! Sanctuary placement for them has been secured at Triple J Horse Haven in Apple Valley, California.
2. Email decision-makers at Washington State University! Ask them to immediately train students through humane clinical programs and state-of-the-art simulation methods rather than killing healthy animals in terminal laboratories. Reference the WSU talking points below for more inspo!
