Sec. 6-55. – Dog licenses required.

(a) Generally. It shall be unlawful for any person to own, keep, maintain or permit to remain on his premises, within the city, any dog which has reached the age of four (4) months, without having obtained a license for such dog.

(b) Application, fees. Application for dog licenses shall be made to, and the licenses shall be issued by the city clerk, after payment of a license fee of three dollars ($3.00) for each male or spayed female dog and five dollars ($5.00) for each unspayed female dog, and presentation of a certificate from a qualified veterinarian showing that the dog to be licensed has been given a vaccination against rabies.

Sec. 6-63. – Redemption; adoption.

(c) Any dog redeemed or adopted must be licensed within the city, and any dog or cat over four (4) months of age adopted as outlined in subsections (a) and (b) of this section must be sterilized and rabies-vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian, and dogs must be licensed if living within the city as set forth in section 6-55; the adopter will be responsible for notifying the animal control officer with documentation that the animal has been sterilized, rabies-vaccinated and licensed (if living within the city) within the amount of time specified by the animal control officer.
