6.04.120 – Dog and cat license.

A. A license is required for all dogs and cats over six months of age. The initial license fee for altered dogs and cats over six months old with at least one owner under the age of 65 is $10.00. The initial license fee for dogs or cats owned by owner or owners over 65 years of age is $5.00.

B. The initial license fee for unaltered dogs and cats is $30.00.

6.04.240 – Adoption of animals.

C. All adopted dogs and cats must be surgically sterilized as required by Kansas law. Anyone adopting a cat or dog must pay for the sterilization prior to final adoption, or pay a deposit as set by the city manager. Deposits may be reclaimed upon presentation of proof that the animal has been surgically sterilized and immunized against rabies. The deadline for reclaiming deposits shall be set by the animal control department, or nine months, whichever is less. Deposits not reclaimed within the specified time period are forfeited to the city.

D. Dogs and cats that can be shown to be already sterilized and immunized against rabies are exempt from the deposit requirement.
