(A) Any person or household owning, keeping, harboring or having custody of any animal over 12 weeks of age within the city limits must obtain an animal license as herein provided. This provision may not apply to the keeping of small cage birds, caged rodents or aquatic and amphibian animals that reside entirely indoors as pets.
§ 91.052 FEES.
(A) A city animal license shall be issued after providing the documentation required and after payment of the proper fees at the office of the City Controller. The license fee shall be set at the rate of $5 per year for animals that are spayed or neutered, and at the rate of $10 per year for animals that are intact.
§ 91.071 DOGS AND CATS UNDER RESTRAINT; FEMALES IN HEAT TO BE KEPT UNDER RESTRAINT.
(B) Every female dog or cat in season shall be confined in a residence or secure enclosure in a manner that the female dog or cat cannot come into contact with another animal. Breeding of any dog or cat within the city without a valid kennel permit (as defined in § 121.20) is prohibited.
§ 91.074 RECLAIMING IMPOUNDED ANIMALS; DISPOSITION OF UNRECLAIMED ANIMALS.
(E) The fees for adopting an unclaimed animal from the city’s Animal Control Department are as follows:
(1) Dogs and puppies: $40 dollars; which includes shots and first worming. Owner agrees to submit proof that animal has been spayed or neutered per the Animal Control Adoption Agreement and § 91.075 of the Hammond Municipal Code.
(2) Cats and kittens: $30; which includes shots and first worming. Owner agrees to submit proof that animal has been spayed or neutered per the Animal Control Adoption Agreement and § 91.075 of the Hammond Municipal Code.
§ 91.075 STERILIZATION.
No unclaimed dog or cat shall be released for adoption without being sterilized, or without a written agreement from the adopter agreeing and guaranteeing that the animal will be sterilized.
