Sec. 18-31. – License for dogs and cats.

(a) Generally. Every dog or cat that is housed within the Village of Skokie and that is more than four months of age shall be licensed by the Village, pursuant to this Chapter, not more than 30 days subsequent to the acquisition of the dog or cat or when the dog or cat reaches four months of age. Said license must be maintained annually commencing with the next annual license renewal period as long as the dog or cat is alive or until the dog or cat is no longer residing in the corporate limits of the Village.

(b) Fee. Every owner of a dog or cat within the Village shall pay an annual license fee as set forth in Section 46-37, and shall receive from the Village a tag bearing the legend “Skokie Animal License,” as well as the license number and the year issued, marked thereon.

(1) When making application for a license for an Altered dog or cat, the owner thereof shall present evidence that the dog or cat is so Altered. Any owner of a licensed dog or cat whose license tag has been lost may obtain a replacement tag by payment of the fee set forth in Section 46-37.

(2) Any individual involved in breeding animals shall first obtain an Individual Breeder license and pay the $250.00 fee. Any person found breeding animals without the required breeding license shall be in violation of this chapter. This does not apply to Commercial Businesses.
