6.04.100 – Rabies vaccination and licensing shall be required.
(e) The Sparta animal care and control ordinance requires that all pet owners license their dogs and outdoor cats. Pet license fees are as below or on file at the city office. Pet owners who do not comply may receive a citation:
(1) Spay/neutered pet: Ten dollars ($10.00) per year or a three (3) year license for twenty-five dollars ($25.00).
(2) Unspayed/non-neutered pet: Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per year or sixty dollars ($60.00) for three (3) years.
6.04.160 – Same—Disposition of unredeemed or surrendered animals.
Any animal impounded under this chapter or otherwise in the control of the animal control officer and not redeemed within three (3) days following the date of its impoundment, in the case of an animal without indicia of ownership or within three (3) days after the owner is notified in the case of an animal with indicia of ownership, may be disposed of by adoption or by euthanasia.

No impounded animal shall be adopted until it has been given all appropriate shots and has been neutered or spayed in the case of an adult animal. An impounded animal who is available for adoption and is too young to be altered may be adopted once it has been given appropriate vaccinations and the adoptive owner has agreed in writing to have the animal neutered or spayed when said animal reaches no more than seven (7) months of age. Veterinarian charges shall be paid by the adoptive owner and such charges shall be set out in the fee schedule on file in the office of the city clerk and shall be payable upon adoption of such animal.
