Tomorrow, PETA supporters will form a ring of truth around American Humane (AH) CEO Robin Ganzert’s cookbook signing at the Palm Beach Book Store to point out that what’s marketed as a guide to “compassionate cooking” is actually full of cruel animal-based recipes and recommendations for AH-certified food suppliers that PETA has exposed for rampant abuse. PETA will screen whistleblower photographs and video footage of Culver Duck Farms—which is AH-certified—revealing that ducks were apparently suffocated, buried alive, and gang-raped as a result of intense crowding.

When:    Thursday, December 8, 5 p.m.

Where:    Palm Beach Book Store, 215 Royal Poinciana Way, Palm Beach

“This cruel cookbook is yet another piece of blazing hypocrisy from American Inhumane, which has fought against animal welfare measures and is deceiving the public,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA will make sure everyone sees that Robin Ganzert and her organization are nothing but manipulators who profit off animals’ suffering.”

Some of the organization’s anti-animal actions include giving humane certifications to the Miami Seaquarium, which recently received citations and an official warning from the federal government for starving dolphins into submission and keeps lone orca Lolita in the world’s smallest orca tank; the notorious turkey-slaughter company Butterball, whose slaughterhouse was the subject of a PETA investigation revealing that workers stomped on birds, slammed them into walls, and tore off their limbs; and Petco, which has a documented history of working with notoriously cruel animal suppliers and neglecting the animals it sells. AH has also opposed legislation in California that would ban bullhooks—weapons that resemble a fireplace poker with a sharp steel hook on one end used to control elephants—and refused to join a campaign supported by Dr. Jane Goodall to end the use of apes in film and television.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
