Philadelphia -- With more and more people choosing vegetarian food to improve their health and prevent animal suffering, Major League Baseball stadiums are stepping up to the plate by offering delicious meat-free options. But nobody has kept pace with Citizens Bank Park--home of the Phillies--which has been named the most vegetarian-friendly ballpark in North America.

The veggie dog and flame-grilled Gardenburger were enough to earn Citizens Bank Park a place on the roster of last year's survey. But this year's addition of the Philly mock-steak sandwich--and the rave reviews it has received from vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike who pile on the grilled onions, mushrooms, peppers, and hot sauce--put the Phillies over the top. The stadium also offers vegetarian subs and wraps, tomato pizza (no cheese, please), fruit cups, salads, and, for the kids, PB&J.

"Citizens Bank Park's great vegetarian selection benefits both animals and the health of Phillies fans, who will be less likely to keel over from a meat-induced heart attack as they cheer Ryan Howard's next longball," says PETA Assistant Director Dan Shannon.

Coming in second was the San Francisco Giants' AT&T Park, which offers veggie dogs, Gardenburgers, portobello mushroom sandwiches, vegetarian sushi, nachos with beans, corn on the cob, vegetable kebabs, and vegetable fried rice.

Rounding out the vegetarian-friendly lineup this year are Safeco Field (Seattle Mariners), Petco Park (San Diego Padres), Busch Stadium (St. Louis Cardinals), Coors Field (Colorado Rockies), Rogers Centre (Toronto Blue Jays), Dolphins Stadium (Florida Marlins), McAfee Coliseum (Oakland Athletics), and Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros) and Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks), which tied for 10th place. This is the first year that PETA also ranked minor league parks; Durham Bulls Athletic Park took top honors by offering veggie dogs, veggie burgers, and veggie burritos in addition to green salads and fruit cups.
